The Russian armed forces would do everything in Ukraine to prevent the West’s plans from working in the country, Lavrov said on Tuesday. He criticized the discussion about more and heavier weapons for Ukraine. “We are taking the necessary measures not to allow Ukraine to become an even greater threat to our security,” Lavrov said.
Russia attacked Ukraine in a war of aggression on February 24 and repeatedly destroyed civilian infrastructure in the cities there. More than 7,000 civilians have been killed so far, according to the United Nations. With rocket and drone attacks, Russia has recently also deliberately destroyed energy infrastructure in Ukraine in order to plunge the country into darkness and cold.
Russia’s chief diplomat also confirmed that Shukri conveyed a message from US Secretary of State Antony Blinken to Ukraine. However, there were no proposals, only demands to leave the country and stop hostilities.
“Russia is ready to listen to any serious proposal to resolve the current situation in its overall context,” Lavrov said. However, NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg has only just made it clear what the West is really after: a defeat for Russia.
“Everything is very clear here that this is not about Ukraine at all,” said the minister. He accused the US of using Ukraine to assert world hegemony. “The Kiev regime, which has no autonomy, is doing the will of the sovereign: the United States and all the rest of the West, which Washington has made its subject.” Russia has recently repeatedly emphasized that it sees itself at war with the entire western world in Ukraine.
