The Ukraine crisis is helping Swiss negotiations with the EU. “Due to the Ukraine crisis, Europe has moved closer together,” said FDP Federal Councilor Ignazio Cassis on Saturday at his party’s delegates’ meeting, “Switzerland is now considered a smaller problem.” This put other problems into perspective, such as those in Switzerland’s relationship with the EU. “But the problems are not solved,” said Cassis.
Nevertheless, the exploratory talks would be in the final sprint.
By the end of the year, good progress had been made in the talks with the EU on a technical level, Cassis told the party delegates in Dübendorf. “Now it’s a matter of establishing a foundation on the basis of which the Federal Council can decide on a new negotiating mandate,” he said. By when that should happen, he left open. (lui/SDA)
