Croissants in the display of a Zurich café: the popular pastry was even used as a “weapon” in a robbery in 2022.
Cocaine instead of coffee, dog instead of lion, croissants as a weapon, crucifix in the discotheque: in the flood of news of the year 2022 there was always something unusual.
A bizarre scene took place in a post office in Zug in early October. A man in a ghost mask threatened a clerk holding a croissant by brandishing the croissant like a pistol and demanding cash. The customers present got scared, so the police were alerted. She was finally able to arrest the 42-year-old croissant robber in front of the post office.
«Lioness» spread fear and stretches
News of a large cocaine discovery in the Nespresso factory in Romont FR spread around the world at the beginning of May. Employees had discovered an unidentified white substance when unloading bags of freshly delivered coffee beans. This turned out to be eighty percent pure cocaine. The police confiscated half a ton of the white powder.
A roaming supposed “lioness” kept people in the Lausanne region in suspense at the end of March. As a precaution, the police issued a “Danger – Wild Animal” warning. A large contingent of emergency services, including an army helicopter, was deployed. However, the animal was not found. The canton veterinarian finally suspected a stray dog behind the phenomenon.
Mysterious theft in Lake Constance
Unconventional thefts were also a topic of discussion in 2022: In Martigny VS, a 32-year-old man stole a cross from the parish church in mid-November, which he later left in a discotheque. The police recovered the crucifix, tracked down the cross thief and he confessed.
In December, an 800-kilogram steel ball filled with gin, which a catering company had placed there, mysteriously disappeared at the bottom of Lake Constance. The high-proof brew should be stored there for a hundred days and thus retain its typical taste. Divers only found the imprint of the ball in the bottom of the lake when they tried to recover it.
Parents suddenly locked out
In the past year, the law enforcement officers had to free people from difficult or compromising situations on various occasions. At the end of May in Winterthur, a couple could no longer find the key to the handcuffs with which the man was chained while making love. When the police were called to help, the man asked for discretion so that his wife would not hear of this extramarital frivolity.
Also in Winterthur, the two-year-old daughter locked her parents out on the balcony of the apartment during a smoke break. Although it was cold outside, the parents could not get the child to unlock the balcony door again. The parents, who were locked out, finally managed to call the police, who freed them from their predicament.
At the beginning of February, two female hitchhikers, one of whom was almost 90 years old, experienced a literal magistral surprise. The driver of a Mini who stopped in the Bern region turned out to be Federal Councilor Simonetta Sommaruga. (SDA)
