US sales of BMW and Audi fall in 2022
BMW had to cope with a slight decline in sales in the USA last year – despite a significant increase in the final quarter. The Volkswagen subsidiary Audi also suffered a sales hit in the USA.
Slightly fewer BMW cars were sold in the US last year.
Overall, sales of the BMW core brand in 2022 were 332,388 vehicles, as BMW announced on Wednesday. This corresponds to a decline of 1.3 percent compared to the previous year. In the fourth quarter, sales increased by 9.4 percent to 101,738 cars. At the subsidiary Mini, US sales for the year as a whole fell by 1.4 percent to 29,504 new cars.
The Volkswagen subsidiary Audi delivered 186,875 cars in the USA, five percent less than in the previous year, as announced on Wednesday. Audi increased sales in the fourth quarter by 63 percent to 54,054 vehicles. The auto industry struggled in 2022 in the face of high inflation, global supply chain problems and stubborn shortages of key components.
