Andreas Gabalier will give “full thrust” at SnowpenAir.
After a successful year with a new album and many concerts, the big Dirndl-Wahnsinn-Hulapalu-Tour continues this year. The word breather doesn’t seem to exist in your vocabulary?
Andreas Gabalier: That’s it! True to the motto: “Who rests, rusts”. I’m almost always full power. Even if I want to relax or calm down, I do it on the mountain or while doing sports. I pull out my strength and calm down at the same time.
Your current album «A New Beginning» is about love and life, the search for meaning and looking ahead. What do you wish for 2023?
That people will move a little closer together again and that this division in society will decrease again. That we can concentrate more on being human and together again, because life is beautiful.
How about New Year’s resolutions? Already broken or not your thing anyway?
I don’t really think so. I think you should stay alive all the time – and get the best out of every day.
You are giving the first concert of the year on March 26th at SnowpenAir in Grindelwald (Mannlichen) at 2222 meters above sea level. Not afraid that at this altitude it will take your breath away?
I’ve never had fear or envy (laughs).
The panorama in front of the Eiger, Mönch and Jungfrau is breathtaking. Have you been to there?
Unfortunately not, but I will make up for it in the course of my concert.
What kind of folk rock ‘n’ roll party can girls and boys look forward to?
The folk rock ‘n’ roll show par excellence! We will also give full boost at these heights.
HECHT and Andreas Gabalier at SnowpenAir
The 24th SnowpenAir will take place on 25th and 26th March 2023 on the Mannlichen in front of the most beautiful panorama in Switzerland! Two days of singing, dancing and partying in front of the Eiger, Mönch and Jungfrau with the headliners HECHT on Saturday and Andreas Gabalier on Sunday. The Bündner Band 77 Bombay Street and Nils Burri, who was born in Frutiger, will play before HECHT on Saturday. The Saturday program will be rounded off with a performance by the young Swiss singer Joya Marleen, who won three awards at the Swiss Music Awards 2022. On Sunday, local hero Daniel Kandlbauer and the Austrian rock ‘n’ rollers from Monroes will heat up the atmosphere before Andreas Gabalier’s concert.

Will you be found not only on the SnowpenAir stage this weekend, but also on the ski slopes?
Of course! I love to stand on skis, so I can combine it right away.
As a true Steirerbua, you learned to ski as a three-year-old kid. Are you able to make it at all with your busy schedule this year?
Naturally. You take your time! And the concert in Grindelwald is a good combination with the concert the following week in Montafon. Skiing is great there in the meantime.
Ten years ago you wrote the official song for the World Ski Championships in Schladming. Do you still follow the races today?
Naturally! I really enjoy being there, I was just in Kitzbühel and occasionally watch the races on TV. I was also very happy that Marco Odermatt is so successful and that the Swiss fan club rewrote “Hulapalu” so beautifully to “Odi, Odi, Odermatt”!
The Lauberhorn race is one of the most spectacular in the ski circuit. At SnowpenAir you would have the chance to try the route yourself. how about
Why not? I’m a good skier, and a femoral neck fracture before the start of a tour would be something new (laughs).
Austria is regarded as Switzerland’s skiing rival. We leave it open who is better. How do you deal with it?
At the moment you have to admit that the Swiss are significantly better and superior to us Austrians in the ski circuit. But that’s what makes sport so appealing. It’s boring when the same people keep winning.
