It was a shock for the “Reality Shore” participant Venance Pfammatter (28): A few weeks after the end of the shoot, she was diagnosed with a preliminary stage of breast cancer. “At first I didn’t understand what was going on – I was fine,” she recalls in an interview with a look. The Valais woman had a mastectomy performed, i.e. the removal of the entire breast and nipples.
Even though the operation went well, the next setback came weeks later. “Unfortunately, it came out that I still have offshoots, so the question now is whether we should do anti-hormone therapy or not. For me, the treatment would mean that I might no longer be able to get pregnant.” Even though she’s already the mother of an eight-year-old boy, Pfammatter struggles with the thought that she won’t be able to have any more children. “I would like to have another little baby.”
signs of breast cancer
Breast cancer often goes undetected for a long time because the patients are not in pain. However, these complaints indicate that one should consult a doctor:
- Lump or hardening in the breast
- Changes in the skin of the breast – this can be inflammation, redness or cellulite
- Dimples or bulges in the skin of the breast
- Inflamed nipple
- Breast suddenly grows
- Fluid runs from the chest
- Swollen lymph nodes in the armpit and below and above the collarbone
- unwanted weight loss

Thousands of women share their fate
Breast cancer is the most common type of cancer in women – according to figures from the Cancer League, 6,600 women in Switzerland are diagnosed with it every year. Around a quarter of those affected are under 50 years old at the time of diagnosis. The preliminary stage that Venance Pfammatter was diagnosed with involves abnormal cells in the milk ducts of the female breast. There is a risk of developing breast cancer.
While surgery can be awaited in some cases, Pfammatter’s doctors didn’t want to waste any time and advised her to have her entire breast removed. “I had to take this radical step. The doctors recommended it to me so that the cancer couldn’t spread any further,” she explains. This procedure also made it possible to dispense with chemotherapy.
Moved back to Valais
The conversation with her son, in which she had to tell him about the diagnosis, was particularly emotional for her. “He asked me if I had to die,” she remembers, fighting back tears as she talks about it. Then the eight-year-old hugged her tightly. The “Switzerland’s Next Topmodel” winner also recently moved back from Solothurn to Valais, where her son lives with his father. “I felt like I needed to be closer to him. I felt like he wanted his mommy closer to him to know I was okay.”
