Illustrious visit to the Ringer Studio: none other than the Swiss star director Marc Forster (53) gave the honor yesterday in Zurich to present his film “A Man Named Otto”. The comedy-drama is a remake of the bestseller by Fredrik Backman (41).
The presentation came about thanks to Forster’s personal contact with Ringier CEO Marc Walder (57) – and because Forster is spending Christmas at his home in Davos GR. He advocates going to the cinema with the family to see the film. “You can laugh together, and maybe there are a few tears too. That’s why I love my job.”
The director is full of praise for the collaboration with leading actor Tom Hanks (66). “He’s the most brilliant actor I’ve ever worked with. There’s something almost monastic about him.” The main character, Otto, is a cranky US pensioner. “But Otto could also be Swiss,” says Forster. “A kind of Bünzli, at the same time he has something of Hamlet.”
“Marc’s whole work is great”
Forster’s work brings the personalities into raptures. Paola Felix (72): “I really liked Marc’s Bond film. But now that I’ve seen the Otto trailer, this could be my new favorite Forster.” While ex-banker Urs Rohner (63) praises “Monster’s Ball”, Doris Fiala (65) cannot decide as President of Procinema. “I think all his work is great.”
Entrepreneur Freddy Burger (76) and wife Isabella (58) associate Forster with an emotional moment. “We first appeared officially as a couple at the Bond premiere in Lucerne in 2008, and now we’re happily married,” they say, beaming.
Marc Forster is now looking forward to a few quieter days skiing in Graubünden. “If there’s enough snow.” Swiss theatrical release of “A man named Otto” is on January 26th.
