Her greatest hits are still legendary today: The musician and actress Irene Cara died at the age of 63 at her home in Florida (USA). This is announced by her publicist on Twitter.
“It is with deep sadness that I announce the passing of Irene Cara on behalf of her family. The Academy Award-winning actress, singer, songwriter and producer has died at her home in Florida. The cause of death is currently unknown and will be announced as soon as it is known,” writes Judith A. Moose. “She was a wonderfully gifted soul whose legacy will live on forever through her music and films.”
Oscar for two film songs
Irene Cara had her biggest hits with the title songs of the films “Fame – The Road to Glory” (1980) and “Flashdance” (1983). Both titles won the Oscar for the best film song. She also had an active acting career, playing the lead role of dancer Coco Hernandez in the film “Fame”.
Irene Cara may also be remembered by the Swiss as a duet partner of DJ Bobo (54). The new edition of the “Flashdance” classic “What A Feeling” became a big hit in 2001 in German-speaking countries.
