St. Gallen Joya Marleen (19) will not forget this day in a hurry: on Wednesday morning, the singer still had her Matura exams before she received her first Swiss Music Award as “Best Female Act” a few hours later in the Bossard Arena Zug. “With trembling hands,” as she said in her acceptance speech. “Hopefully I don’t fall over was my first thought as I walked towards the stage.”

And that was just the beginning of an “amazing” evening, which the newcomer passed “humming cum laude” with the highest distinction. Because she won in all three categories in which she was nominated. Shortly after receiving the first cobblestone trophy, she prevailed in the “SRF 3 Best Talent” category against her competitors Priya Ragu (36) and Kings Elliot (28). “I’m looking forward to finally being able to focus fully on music,” said Marleen with regard to her imminent end of high school.
