Just days before Lisa Marie Presley († 54) died of a heart attack on Thursday, she attended an event at Graceland in Memphis to honor her father Elvis Presley (1935-1977) on his 88th birthday.
During her brief speech at the estate on Sunday, she thanked the adoring fans and was touched by their willingness to travel from all over the world to visit the home of the King of Rock ‘n’ Roll. “I keep saying you’re the only ones who can get me out of my house – no joke,” Presley told those present.
Her son’s death affected her greatly
However, fans noted that the musician, who has not been active on her Instagram channel since August, looked “incredibly sad” and “vulnerable”. The reason for this is probably still the death of her son Benjamin Keough (1992-2020), who had taken his own life almost three years earlier. He is buried at Graceland alongside his grandfather Elvis.
Until her death, Presley had to struggle with the loss of her only son, as she herself explained several times. “My heart and my soul went with you,” she summarized her pain in an essay in the summer of 2022. But despite her immense grief, she promised to try to keep going for the sake of her daughters.
Finally, Tuesday night, just two days after the celebrations at Graceland, the musician made her final appearance at the Golden Globes in Los Angeles. In an interview on the red carpet, she already looked weak, clinging to her manager Jerry Schilling’s (80) arm. During Austin Butler’s (31) acceptance speech for the award for his portrayal of Elvis in the film of the same name, she burst into tears.
Ex-husband tried to save her
Lisa Marie Presley went into cardiac arrest at her home on Thursday. As the US portal TMZ reports, her housekeeper found her motionless in her bedroom. Presley’s ex-husband Danny Keough (58), with whom she lived, tried to save her with a cardiac massage until paramedics arrived. A short time later, Presley died in the hospital, her mother Priscilla Presley (77) was by her side.
