It will be a unique event, announces Gotthard guitarist Leo Leoni (53), “that’s why we’re looking forward to this spectacle so much”. Next year, the frontman of the successful Ticino rocker Steve Lee († 47), who died in an accident in the USA in 2010, would celebrate his 60th birthday. To commemorate and celebrate the singer, Gotthard is organizing the tribute show “One Life, One Soul – A Night to Remember” on December 2, 2023 in Zurich’s Hallenstadion. “Lee should rise again,” says Leoni.
«A long dream of ours»
Using video recordings from 2005, Lee will once again sing the biggest hits such as “Heaven”, “Lift U Up” and “All We Are” from huge LED walls, while the former accompanists will sing him live on stage support. “We have long dreamed of having a memorial concert like this, but the timing never felt right,” says Leoni. With Steve’s milestone birthday, the date would now fit symbolically. “The concert will let his legend shine again,” says the guitarist. They went through thick and thin with Steve. “It will be a wonderful experience for us as a band to honor him with fans and friends.”
But fans of the Swiss hard rockers can enjoy great live shows beforehand. Leo Leoni and his side project CoreLeoni will be embarking on a major tour of Switzerland this month to create atmosphere with old Gotthard songs and new songs from the recently released album “III”. After that he wants to start writing new songs for the next album with the other Gotthard members. “We have a lot planned for 2023,” says Leoni, “we’re all really looking forward to it.”
Advance sales for the Gotthard show in the Hallenstadion start on Thursday, November 3, at 2 p.m. at Ticketcorner.
