Petter Maffay and Tania Makkay are divorced.

In May of last year, musician Peter Maffay (73) and his ex-wife Tania Makkay (48) (that’s the singer’s real name and thus also his wife) agreed on a comparison – the divorce has now been completed. According to information from the German “Bild”, Maffay has to transfer the equivalent of 3.2 million francs to his ex-wife, and the shared villa in Dorsten, Germany, also goes to her.

The couple met in 1999, and in 2003 the native Romanian married Tania. And although the two renewed their vows in 2015, Maffay split a few months later. The reason: the pop singer had fallen in love with Hendrikje Balsmeyer (then 25, now 36), who was 38 years younger. At that time he called the German teacher “an encounter that fascinated me very much”. What followed were years of litigation with his still-wife Tania – it was all about a lot of money.

mediation aborted

According to “Bild”, the couple had already filed for divorce in 2017 – and Maffay apparently had no interest in coming to an agreement with his ex out of court during mediation. He broke off corresponding negotiations again and again. Since the couple had never signed a prenuptial agreement, Makkay was legally entitled to half of the wealth the couple had made together over a 12-year period. Makkay also complained about maintenance costs, which would have brought her the equivalent of more than 56,000 francs a month. The court agreed with her for part of the sum – later it even ruled that Maffay had to pay more.
