The defamation lawsuit against her ex-husband and Hollywood star Johnny Depp (58) has, according to the US actress Amber Heard (36), brought countless mean things. “I’m harassed, humiliated and threatened every single day just walking into this courtroom,” Heard said Thursday in the Fairfax County Court in Virginia.
“I regularly get hundreds of death threats, almost every day. Thousands since this process began,” added the actress. “People make fun of my statements that I was abused.” Depp once told her that if she left him, he would make sure she thought of him every day of her life, Heard said. “Johnny has taken enough of my voice and the right to tell my story. I have the right to tell what happened.”
Depp denies everything
Depp had defended himself against his ex-wife’s allegations of abuse the day before. He “never” used physical violence in his relationship with Heard, Depp said. Revealing yourself in court is not easy for anyone. The “Pirates of the Caribbean” star emphasized that he told the truth in the process. The “Aquaman” actress had repeatedly accused her former husband of violent behavior on the witness stand.
The civil process between ex-husbands Depp (58) and Heard (36), which has been going on for six weeks, is in its final phase. Closing arguments are expected on Friday, after which the case will go to the jury.
He wants $50 million, she wants $100 million
In his civil lawsuit, Depp alleges that his ex-wife made false statements in a 2018 op-ed by the Washington Post about domestic violence. This damaged his reputation. Depp is suing for around 50 million dollars (a good 48 million francs) in damages for defamation, Heard has filed a counterclaim for 100 million dollars.
The two actors met in 2009 while filming the joint film “The Rum Diary”. They married in 2015, but after 15 months of marriage, Heard filed for divorce. (sda)
