Oscar slap and racism scandal
The biggest TV scandals of the year
It was not quiet on television this year either: while Will Smith caused a stir with a slap in the face, Janina Youssefian shocked with a racist slogan in the jungle camp.

Will Smith probably caused the biggest stir at the Oscars in March when he slapped comedian Chris Rock in the face.
Will Smith (54), Janina Youssefian (39), Lijana Kaggwa (25) and Kenny Leemann (26) have something in common: They all caused a TV excitement this year.
Will Smith handed out slaps at the Oscars
Hollywood star Will Smith slapped comedian Chris Rock (57) on stage at the Oscars. The comedian made a reference to the 1997 film The Jane Files, in which actress Demi Moore (59) plays an elite soldier with a shaved head. Rock made fun of Smith’s wife Jada Pinkett Smith (51), who suffers from circular hair loss. Rolling her eyes, her husband laughed at first – but then ran onto the stage and slapped Rock in the face. Smith later yelled, “Don’t put my wife’s name in your damn mouth.” The organizers of the gala even switched off the audio transmission for a short time. A short time later, Smith returned to the stage – but this time to pick up the Oscar for best actor for his role in the film “King Richard”. He was allowed to keep this one. However, he received a ten-year ban from attending the Oscars.

Racism scandal in the jungle camp
RTL must at “I’m a star – get me out of here!” Crack down early in the year: Racist statements were made in a dispute between Bohlen-Ex Janina Youssefian (39) and former “Bachelor” candidate Linda Nobat (27). The two should compete together for the jungle test. But after Youssefian had said to her after her last joint test of courage with Nobat that she could finally prove herself, a war of words ensued and later a cross-border verdict. “Go back to the bush where you belong,” Youssefian said clearly to comrade-in-arms Linda Nobat. The producers then quickly drew consequences: Youssefian had to say goodbye to the jungle camp.

Serious allegations against “Germany’s Next Top Model”
Ex-“GNTM” finalist Lijana Kaggwa took on Heidi Klum (49) in May. In 2020 she took part as a candidate in the Pro-Sieben show. Two years later, she settled accounts with the responsible production company Redseven and the model mom in a YouTube video. In the clip, Kaggwa tells of the terrible conditions in the model villa: the candidates were treated like prisoners and were not allowed to carry their cell phones with them. In addition, there are only foods without sugar and fat. Not everything goes right on the catwalks either. She remembered the first fashion show of her season. Shortly before the start, stylists creamed the feet of selected candidates – which ended in quite a slide because of the high heels. “It is simply manipulated beforehand who should stumble and who shouldn’t,” says Kaggwa. The TV station denied the allegations and initiated legal action. In court, however, Kaggwa achieved a partial victory: she was partly right.
Bachelor served winner via voice memo
What began romantically ended with a nasty basket. At this year’s “Bachelor” season, Kenny Leemann gave his last rose in Thailand to Chiara Russo (24) from Zurich. After the finale, they spent two days in intimate togetherness. This is how things will continue in Switzerland, Russo believed, as she said to Leemann in the reunion show: “I thought the most beautiful dream dates were only just beginning. You thought so too.” But things turned out differently. Kenny Leemann’s interest quickly evaporated. For three weeks he hardly got in touch with Chiara Russo. They just happened to see each other in the exit. The bachelor also canceled a meeting with her at short notice. Three days later, Leemann dismissed the “Bachelor” winner in a voice memo. Too much for Russo: she didn’t even answer anymore. (bsn)
