Boris Becker was sentenced to two and a half years in prison for bankruptcy offenses in April.
It should be as early as next week: Boris Becker (55) should be able to leave the English prison. According to the British newspaper “Telegraph”, the ex-tennis star is already making plans for the time after jail. For Beckerwho has to leave the country, goes straight back to Germany – and that despite huge debts in a private jet.
Arriving in his homeland, a big TV interview is supposed to be waiting for Becker. A Munich broadcaster is said to be very interested in an exclusive interview with the former Wimbledon winner. According to information from the German “Bild” newspaper, this deal is not yet sealed.
book in planning
But Becker doesn’t just want to unpack in a TV interview: A book is also planned. Exact details are not yet known. However, one thing is clear: he will not see much of the income from his latest project. Specialist lawyer Hans Georg Fritsche (47) explains “Bild”: “The District Court of Heidelberg had ordered that the insolvency proceedings also apply to Germany. (…) This means that the income that Mr. Becker generates in Germany goes into the insolvency estate. In other words, he can’t keep most of it.”
In Germany, Becker is rumored to be staying with friends or in a hotel. The British taxpayer should not pay for the luxury flight back home. This is said to be part of Becker’s deal with the German private broadcaster. Otherwise, the ex-tennis pro would have to fly normally in the wood class.
The early release is possible, as “The Sun” reports, because Becker has been approved for an accelerated procedure. These procedures are possible for foreign inmates being sent back to their home country to relieve UK prisons. Becker has been in prison for bankruptcy offenses for over seven months. (bnr/lob)
