It’s breaking a taboo: “Switzerland news” moderator Oceana Galmarini (28) speaks openly about her wages and wants to draw attention to the lack of wage transparency. She earned 6020.40 francs last month with her work in front of and behind the camera at SRF. The openness of the TV woman causes a stir.
The day after the release, Oceana Galmarini told Blick: “The vast majority of reactions are very positive. Many support me, some have thanked me, others have even disclosed their wages to me because they also want to work for wage transparency.” She appreciates that trust very much.
Pay transparency is still not a matter of course
The many reactions confirm Galmarini in their actions. “The fact that this topic arouses such great interest shows me that it is by no means a matter of course in our society to speak openly about wages,” said the SRF presenter.
But the wage bill that Oceana Galmarini receives for her 80 percent job also gives something to talk about. Because: Many Blick readers find that the moderator is paid too well from the fee money. SRF briefly summarizes this when asked by Blick. «Remuneration at SRF is based on requirements, performance and the market.» The press office does not want to go into further detail.
Other moderators also made wages public
Oceana Galmarini is not the first SRF figurehead to speak publicly about wages. In 2018, Sandro Brotz (53) said live on TV that he earned around 130,000 francs a year in his position as presenter of “Rundschau” and deputy editor-in-chief. Reto Lipp (62) announced in 2012 that he would receive 120,000 francs for the financial program “Eco”, which has now been replaced by a talk. And ex-“Tagesschau” man Franz Fischlin (60) got around 100,000 francs for his 80 percent job.
