Art Basel Miami Beach came to an end in Florida on Sunday evening. This year’s edition was also attended by top-class guests: Leonardo DiCaprio (48), Kim Kardashian (42), Jon Bon Jovi (60), Madonna (64), Hailey Bieber (26) and Pharrell Williams (49) equipped the event with Swiss Root a visit. Right in the middle: Basel fashion designer Yannik Zamboni (36), who was announced in September as the winner of the US program “Making The Cut” with Heidi Klum (49).
“It’s crazy: everyone here knows Basel. But nobody knows that it is a city and that it is in Switzerland. People have no idea!” he says with a laugh. He was visiting the event for around a week and took the opportunity to network after his show victory in the USA. “It’s an ideal place for that. And to get inspiration,” he says. He was accompanied by his friends Aaron Kohler and Ave Rohtla, together they ran from one event to the next. «From Audemars Piquet to the Sohobeach House Event. I went to three to five events every day,” he says. Being on the guest list is not absolutely necessary. “If you present yourself as important enough, you can get in anywhere.”
Asap Rocky and Travis Scott were surrounded by bodyguards
The atmosphere on site? “It’s warm, totally relaxed. A real summer feeling,” he enthuses. And yet numerous world stars are on site. Among other things, he met Rihanna’s (34) husband Asap Rocky (34) and Kylie Jenner’s (25) partner Travis Scott (31). “Both were surrounded by bodyguards and busy looking cool,” says Zamboni.
For him, the visit to the event, which Xenia Tchoumi (35) also attended, pays off one way or another. “I even had to give an interview to a journalist on the street.” A model from his show at New York Fashion Week in September drove by with an editor in the passenger seat. “So they stopped and questioned me on the spot from the car.”
Perfume collection and pop-up store in Zurich
By winning “Making The Cut,” Zamboni not only gained a mentorship from Amazon and a million dollars, but also a lot of notoriety. He is repeatedly approached on the street, even more so than in Switzerland. The fashion designer, who was born in Baselland, is going back home on Monday evening. “We are working on a perfume collection and will soon be opening a pop-up store in Zurich,” says Zamboni. “So I don’t get bored in Switzerland.”
