A national rally was held on Saturday with the aim of “giving the Iranian people a voice”.
Executions of protesters in Iran continue. The solidarity demonstrations in Switzerland continue. Between 2,000 and 3,000 people demonstrated on Saturday afternoon in Zurich for the concerns of the protest movement in Iran and against the repressive policies of the government there. The protesters chanted slogans such as “Woman – Life – Freedom” and “Mullah must go”. There was also criticism of official Switzerland’s course.
The organization “Free Iran Switzerland” had called for the rally. They reiterated their call for a change of course in Switzerland’s Iran policy. In particular, she demanded that the Federal Council adopt the EU sanctions against the government in Tehran. The Revolutionary Guard and Basij militias are also said to be classified as terrorist organizations.
One of the speakers at the rally is FDP National Councilor Doris Fiala (65). “I want to show the people from Iran that I am not indifferent to their fate and that they are not alone,” the Zurich politician told the “Tagesanzeiger” beforehand. “Our solidarity is with the courageous women and men who are rebelling against dictatorship and torture,” the SP also said on Twitter.
The trigger for the nationwide protests in Iran was the death of the Iranian Kurd Jina Mahsa Amini in mid-September. She died in police custody after being arrested by the so-called morality police for violating Islamic dress codes. Since then there have been repeated protests against the government’s repressive course and the Islamic system of rule. According to the latest estimates by the US-based organization Human Rights Activists News Agency, more than 500 people have already died in the protests in Iran. (lui/SDA)
