Federal President Ignazio Cassis (61) met his French counterpart Emmanuel Macron (44) in Paris on Friday evening. The official visit on the sidelines of the fifth Paris Peace Forum dealt, among other things, with Switzerland’s relations with the EU.
The meeting of the two counterparts follows their exchange at the first meeting of the European political community on October 6, 2022 in Prague, according to a statement by the Federal Department of Foreign Affairs (FDFA) on Friday evening.
A year ago, Macron had officially postponed a meeting in the Elysée Palace in Paris with the then Federal President Guy Parmelin due to scheduling reasons. The cancellation came after Switzerland’s decision to buy US FA-35 fighter jets rather than French Rafales and the unilateral breakdown of talks on the framework agreement with the EU. (SDA/nab)
