Possible breach of official secrecy
EDA files criminal complaint after Cassis trip
Because Blick knew about the surprise visit to Kyiv by Federal Councilor Ignazio Cassis, the foreign department filed a criminal complaint against unknown persons with the federal prosecutor’s office. It is about the suspicion that someone has violated official secrecy.
Federal President Ignazio Cassis, left, surprisingly met the Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyj.
The Federal Department of Foreign Affairs (EDA) has filed criminal charges against persons unknown. It confirmed a corresponding report from the newspaper “Le Temps”. The complaint is about a possible breach of official secrecy by someone from the authorities.
The injury is said to have occurred around the trip by Federal President Ignazio Cassis (61) to Ukraine on October 20th. According to the Westschweizer Zeitung, the Federal Council colleagues had only been informed about the delicate trip the day before. However, Blick was aware of the travel program.
Meeting with Zelenskyy
Cassis met his counterpart Volodymyr Zelensky (44), Ukrainian Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal (47) and Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba (41) in Kyiv during his one-day surprise visit, during which he traveled by train from Poland.
A trip to Kyiv planned for the same day by German Federal President Frank-Walter Steinmeier (66) had been postponed at short notice, allegedly for security reasons.
Because of the ongoing investigation, the EDA does not want to say more about it. (SDA/pt)
