Magistral cost-of-living compensation
Federal Council salary increases in five digits!
In 2022, inflation in Switzerland will be higher than it has been for 30 years. In many places, wages are therefore being adjusted. With the members of the Federal Council, that really pours out.

The newly elected SVP Federal Councilor Albert Rösti can be happy.
Hard times are coming for most Swiss people: Everything is getting more expensive. Inflation will be just under three percent this year. In order to at least partially compensate for this, wages are being adjusted in various sectors.
Federal employees also get higher wages. The inflation adjustment alone is 2.5 percent. The Federal Councilors also benefit from this. Your salary will also be adjusted, as reported by the CH Media newspapers. This is provided for in the ordinance of the Federal Assembly on the remuneration of magistrates.
11,421 francs more
This is getting better for the members of the state government. With the cost-of-living adjustment of 2.5 percent, annual income increases by 11,421 francs to 468,275 francs. This corresponds to a bonus of just over CHF 950 per month.
The Federal President receives an additional CHF 12,000, and all Federal Councilors receive an expense allowance of CHF 30,000. Even after their term of office, the Federal Councilors are well taken care of: they receive half their wages as a pension for the rest of their lives.
Big differences in the cantons
In the cantons, too, government members receive more wages, as is further reported. However, the level of cost-of-living adjustments for government employees varies from canton to canton. Zurich is the leader with 3.5 percent. In Aargau, Solothurn and Lucerne, civil servants receive a cost-of-living compensation of 1.5 percent.
The canton of Basel-Stadt is going its own way. There, the cost-of-living adjustment is graded: the higher the wage, the lower the increase. The government councilors receive a maximum of 65 percent of the cost-of-living adjustment of 2.9 percent. (dba)
