Gastrosuisse fails with Corona initiative
The collection of signatures for the compensation initiative launched during the Covid 19 pandemic is prematurely terminated. Those responsible write that the initiative has not mobilized enough in sectors affected by closures and restrictions.

In order to be able to bring the signatures together within the deadline, the membership fees in the association would have had to be increased, according to the message from the initiative association on Monday. These higher contributions were rejected.
The initiative wanted to enshrine in the constitution that companies, shops and cultural workers receive compensation if they are unable to work to protect against an epidemic or can only do so to a limited extent.
The referendum was launched by Gastrosuisse and representatives of five parties. The support measures for the economy during the Corona crisis came about commendably quickly, but they resembled a “patchwork” in the 26 cantons, Gastrosuisse President Casimir Platzer argued at the launch last March.
The association, which launched the popular initiative “For regulated compensation in the event of an epidemic (compensation initiative)”, had until September 29 to collect the 100,000 signatures required for the event to take place. By half time, 35,000 signatures had been collected. (SDA)
