In the case of the indiscretions from the health department of Federal President Alain Berset (50), there is an important chapter: the imprisonment of the former head of communications Peter Lauener (52). On July 10, the Sunday Blick was the first to report: “Berset’s intimates were in prison.”
What was it about? Special investigator Peter Marti (72) had the media spokesman arrested for four days on May 17, 2022. Marti had applied for pre-trial detention. Now it turns out that from a formal legal point of view it was only a so-called preparatory detention, i.e. the phase during which the parties are waiting for the court decision as to whether the actual coercive measure may come into force.
This difference is irrelevant to the political dimension of the case and is routinely ignored in legal circles. So had the SonntagsBlick produced a duck?
In the end, Special Counsel Marti lost
We have to put up with accusations of inaccuracy. Insufficient, it would be called in a law seminar. Blick had already made this mistake public in October. Now the online magazine “Republik” has doubled on Wednesday, which has raised the mishap in a very stately, deadly serious manner in the title: “Contrary to the reports in several hundred media articles, Berset’s former media boss was never in custody”.
Incidentally, special counsel Marti finally lost his application. On May 20, 2022, Lauener was free again – in time for the WEF in Davos, where his superior Alain Berset met various heads of state for lively discussions.
Three weeks later, Lauener left the Interior Department under circumstances that have not been clarified to this day.
