The Foreign Policy Committee of the National Council is calling on the Federal Council to start negotiations with the EU in the first half of 2023.
The Federal Council should move forward. The ongoing exploratory talks should be concluded quickly. Concrete negotiations with Brussels should start by the summer.
Only in this way is it realistic that the negotiations on the contract package, including the institutional issues, “can be completed during the current term of office of the EU Commission,” as the Foreign Affairs Committee of the National Council (APK-N) announced after its meeting on Monday.
Stable relations with the EU are of the greatest political and economic importance for Switzerland. “This can only be achieved through negotiations,” it said.
On Monday, foreign policymakers discussed the draft report on the situation assessment of relations between Switzerland and the EU, which the Federal Council presented at the beginning of December. (SDA)
