After criticism from the left
Rösti cancels campaign appearance
Neo-Federal Councilor Albert Rösti will not take part in an election campaign of the Basel region SVP as planned. His appearance there had caused anger among political opponents.

Albert Rösti took office – and just two weeks later he wanted to act as a campaign engine in the Basel area.
In their first 100 days in office, new Federal Councilors hold back in public. At least that’s what good sound demands. And Neo-Environment Minister Albert Rösti (55) has also found his way back to this.
Actually, the Bernese had planned to take part in an SVP election campaign event in Aesch BL on January 18th. Now the about-face: “Federal Councilor Rösti will not be present at the event on January 18 in Aesch,” said a department spokeswoman when asked by Blick.
First appearance probably at the WEF
And she confirms: “Federal Councilor Rösti will be very reluctant to make public appointments for the first 100 days.” However, the new SVP magistrate will not disappear completely from the scene. After all, the World Economic Forum in Davos GR is on the agenda for the week after next – and in view of the war in Ukraine and ongoing climate change, energy policy is likely to be one of the big issues in the Graubünden mountains. The new minister of the host country will not want to be absent.
The department also confirms that the first public appointment “may be at the WEF in Davos”. “At most, he will give a greeting in front of a panel organized by the Federal Office of Energy. But the decision as to whether and when Federal Councilor Rösti will travel to the WEF will not be made until next week,” the spokeswoman continued.
Criticism of Baselbieter guest performance
Rösti will also give a word of welcome at the electricity congress in Berne, which takes place on January 18th. On the other hand, on the same day, he refrained from campaigning for his party in the Basel area. Rösti would have wanted to support his ex-National Council colleague Sandra Sollberger (49) there. This occurs for the first time in the government council elections, which take place on February 12.
Rösti’s Schützenhilfe was not well received by the competition. “Doesn’t Albert Rösti really know anything better than traveling to a cantonal election campaign and to ‘big election events’ in the first 100 days of his Concordance Federal Council days?” Tweeted the Basel-based SP National Councilor Eric Nussbaumer (62). For him, this is nothing less than a “fail” – a mistake by the neo-magistrate.
So Nussbaumer can sit back and relax. Whereby: Because of Rösti’s absence, the difficult situation of the Baselbieter SP candidates will not improve either. (sf/lha)
