“Silence technology” because of delays
SBB delete Munich-Zurich from the timetable
Because the Eurocity trains from Munich to Zurich often arrive late in Switzerland, they have to give way to other trains. The delay is so great that the SBB immediately banishes the connections from the timetable.

The SBB are now relying on “silence technology”. This, with the Eurocity connections between Munich and Zurich. Because instead of the scheduled three hours between major cities, the train often takes four hours – or is canceled altogether.
Because the trains are so unreliable, the railway is taking an unusual step, writes the “Aargauer Zeitung”. You simply delete the Eurocity trains from the timetables for certain sections. According to the article from Zurich, anyone looking for a connection to the airport or to Winterthur will no longer find it – just as little as in the opposite direction. “Only stop to get off” is noted in the timetable.
«silence technique»
An SBB spokeswoman told the newspaper that it was a “control measure” because of the high demand and the delays. Instead of the “tilting technology” that is used on the trains, one could speak of “silent technology” here. The SBB are simply hiding the connection.
“Only stop to get off”: Munich-Zurich connection.
The Swiss Federal Railways also cite construction sites, infrastructure restrictions in Germany and isolated disruptions to the vehicle tilting technology as reasons for the delays. The long single-track line and train crossings in the Allgäu made operation “very demanding”.
Delay adds up
If the trains arrive in Switzerland with even a slight delay, they are slowed down by an Interregio. And before Zurich, because of the heavy traffic, there is no more time to catch up anyway. According to the article, this means that the delay to the destination station in Zurich often adds up to half an hour. (pt)
