Instead of the syringe, a spray could one day protect against corona – and possibly even better. According to a study led by Freie Universität Berlin, vaccination with a nasal spray performs better than the MRNA vaccine.

Because unlike mRNA vaccinations, which form antibodies in the blood, the spray provides protection directly where the virus docks: in the nasal mucosa. “The nasal spray can create local immunity,” explains molecular biologist Emanuel Wyler (41). The Swiss, who researches at the Max Delbrück Center in Berlin, is a co-author of the study, which has not yet been independently checked and published in advance. The Berlin Charité and epidemiologist Christian Drosten (49) were also involved.
