Switzerland’s first hearing of the SP takes place in Lucerne
The first hearing of the candidates to succeed the resigning Federal Councilor Simonetta Sommaruga will take place in Lucerne. The cantonal SP will hold the hearing together with SP Switzerland on November 21, the party announced on Sunday.

Interested party members have until 12:00 p.m. on November 21 to apply to succeed Sommaruga. The first hearing for the party base and for all interested parties will take place in Lucerne seven hours later. The Vice President of SP Switzerland, David Rot, will moderate the event.
Further hearings will take place over the next few days in Lausanne, Zurich and Liestal. At a preparatory parliamentary group meeting on November 18th and 19th, the SP parliamentary group will decide on the criteria for the candidacies. The parliamentary group presidium and the presidium of SP Switzerland will propose to the parliamentary group that a ticket with two women should be presented to the United Federal Assembly and that the candidacies can come from all parts of the country.
Parallel to the hearings, the selection committee set up by the presidency of the SP Switzerland and the presidency of the parliamentary group will examine the candidates for their suitability by November 25th. On this day, the party council of the SP Switzerland will make a recommendation for the attention of the parliamentary group at an extraordinary meeting. The parliamentary group will nominate the ticket to the United Federal Assembly at an extraordinary meeting on November 26th. Election day is December 7th.
