Political talk on Blick TV
Is Tinder coming into the Federal Council election now?
With the resignation of Simonetta Sommaruga, Parliament has to fill two seats in the Federal Council on December 7th. Party leaders and experts talk about how the starting point is changing at lunchtime on Blick TV.
Ueli Maurer and Simonetta Sommaruga resign. This brings tension to the Federal Council election.
This resignation came as a surprise: After SP Federal Councilor Simonetta Sommaruga (62) had initially suspended a week after her husband Lukas Hartmann (78) fell ill, she decided on Wednesday to leave office at the end.
On December 7th, the parliament in Bern not only has to fill the vacant Federal Council seat of SVP Finance Minister Ueli Maurer (71), but also that of Sommaruga.

How does that change the Federal Council election?
That brings a little more excitement to the Federal Council election – because the race is a lot more open in the SP than in the SVP, where Albert Rösti (55) is already considered elected, one asks in the corridors of the Federal Palace. Or is that the last word has not yet been spoken?
The SP leadership obviously wants a woman to follow Sommaruga – otherwise the left would be represented by two men in the Bundesrat. However, candidatures are welcome from all parts of the country – two Romands (and thus a Latin majority in the Federal Council) would not be a problem. What’s behind it?
One thing is already clear: The Greens not only refrain from attacking the SVP seat, but also that of the SP. Why?
