The railway bosses go for these routes

175 years ago, on August 9, 1847, the first Swiss railway line went into operation with the “Spanish Brötli Railway” between Zurich and Baden AG. Since then, Switzerland has developed into a rail Mecca: standard, narrow-gauge, steam, cogwheel and cable cars – there is almost nothing that does not exist here.

With a length of more than 5100 kilometers, Switzerland has one of the largest, densest and yes, also most punctual rail networks in all of Europe. There are also hundreds of mountain railways, postbuses and trams. The public transport industry thinks it’s high time to celebrate. The Bahnfest summer starts this Saturday (see box).
