Two out of three teachers have experienced violence in the last five years. This is what the umbrella organization of teachers in Switzerland (LCH) writes in a statement. On Monday he wants to present a study.
One thing is certain: the teachers experience both psychological and physical violence. And the cases are increasing. Some of these have made headlines in recent years.
As was the case in March 2018 at a vocational school in the canton of Lucerne. At the time, the school management issued a house ban on an apprentice (17) because of threats against teachers. Nevertheless, he returns after three months – and beats his teacher to the hospital.
teacher thrown to the ground
Or the incident in April 2019 in the canton of Fribourg. There, a secondary school student grabs her teacher, 50, in the classroom, throws him to the ground and continues to beat him. Classmates have to step in. The teacher suffers minor injuries.
In June 2019, there was a scandal at the Chestenberg district school in Möriken-Wildegg AG. A seventh grader (14) punches his teacher and breaks her jaw. She only wanted to check the Syrian’s backpack because he had once come to school with a stabbing weapon.
High number of unreported cases suspected
It also degenerated in March 2022 in the lower grades of a school in Goldach SG. When a teacher wants to settle a dispute between two students, she gets hit by a third grader herself.
However, it is usually parents who cause problems with teachers. What is sad is that a high number of unreported cases is suspected for both psychological and physical violence.
