The main reason for this is the increased number of Afghan and Moroccan migrants, writes the BAZG in a statement on Thursday. Many of them entered Switzerland irregularly from Austria or Italy. Of the nearly 6,000 people apprehended in December alone, 852 were handed over to foreign authorities.
The suspected cases of smuggling remained similarly high in 2022 compared to the previous year, 476 suspected smugglers were stopped, as can be seen from the figures from the BAZG.
