High visitor behind the stage
Widmer Smurf – times 12!
Former Federal Councilor Eveline Widmer-Schlumpf is used to political thrillers. At the Neumarkt Theater in Zurich, she has been playing the leading role for weeks. Now she was even present for the first time.

Now it still worked. Director Piet Baumgartner (38) had to be patient for a long time, but now the old Federal Councilor Eveline Widmer-Schlumpf (66) did the honor and visited the Neumarkt Theater in Zurich. After all, the native of Graubünden actually plays the main role herself in the play “EWS – the only political thriller in Switzerland”.
As the title suggests, it is about a true political drama: the deselection of Christoph Blocher (82) from the Federal Council and the triumph of Widmer-Schlumpf in 2007. Director Baumgartner relied on a post-modern staging: eleven Widmer He sends Smurf actresses onto the stage to stage the drama.
“A special moment”
And for once there was also a Widmer-Schlumpf in the audience – the original. “Of course it was a special moment for us that the object of our artistic work was there for once,” says Baumgartner. “We were happy about that, because it is not a matter of course – especially because politically we don’t actually have the hay on the same stage.”
Widmer-Schlumpf insisted on posing for a picture with her eleven “doubles”. «12 EVELINES!» Baumgartner proudly posted on Twitter.

“Out of respect for the director”
Eveline Widmer-Schlumpf never commented on the play either before the production or afterwards. And it should stay that way. She said she didn’t want to stand in the director’s way in his artistic interpretation of the events. But now she has attended a screening “out of appreciation for the director and the whole team”.
In fact, director Baumgartner had researched diligently for his work in the environment of the actors at the time, spoke to the most important string puller, the former Graubünden SP National Councilor Andrea Hämmerle (76), but also to SVP strategist Blocher himself. Only the former Federal Councilor felt no desire to talk about what happened at the time. Nothing has changed about that either. (dba)
