Jeremy Colliton coached the Chicago Blackhawks at the age of 33.
Stephen RothDeputy Head of Ice Hockey
The smart Canadian made the leap from Europe, where he coached Mora to Sweden’s highest league, (via AHL) to the NHL. In 2018, at the age of 33, he became the coach of the Chicago Blackhawks. There he also had to deal with the Swiss Suter and Kurashev. Three years later he was fired. He is currently on the gang with Vancouver farm team Abbotsford in the AHL.
The French Canadian experienced the peak of his career in 2021. As an interim coach, he led the Montréal Canadiens to the Stanley Cup final, where Tampa Bay was then too strong. Before that, he spent years at the highest junior level honing talents (including Meier in Halifax) and leading Canada to the U20 World Cup title in 2018.
At the Karjala Cup he supported national team coach Fischer as a consultant. And he will coach Team Canada at the Spengler Cup. However, the former Vancouver coach is hoping to get back into the NHL soon.
In Finland you can imagine that the goldsmith (2022 Olympics, 2011 World Cup, 19 and 22) is looking for another challenge as a club coach. Releasing him from his contract would probably be expensive. The question is whether his communication skills are sufficient for the ZSC.
With Kärpät he became champion in 2014 and 15. Since his return to Oulu, things have not gone so smoothly.
Edmonton coach Jay’s brother has a good international reputation. He is currently on the gang at Minsk. In Switzerland, he failed to make a lasting impression during turbulent times in Geneva in 2017/18.
Sports director Leuenberger said on MySports that the farm team’s successful coach was “certainly an option”, but added that they didn’t want to “burn a young coach”. Would the Emmental be up to the demanding star ensemble?
The gnarly Danish national team coach has made every team better. It would be exciting to see what he could do with a quality squad that doesn’t require him to rely primarily on defense.
The ex-NHL star is the climber in Europe’s coaching guild and has led provincial team Mikkeli to the quarter-finals of the Champions League. But can one trust the ZSC with such a progressive choice, especially since he is not actively looking for a club?
In Sweden, the rumor persists that the coach of the Champions League winner could end up in Switzerland. Together with twin brother Chris, the general manager of Rögle. The Lions are not (yet) looking for a sports director.
