Manchester City beat Arsenal 1-0 in the FA Cup.
In the vote for Swiss Footballer of the Year on Monday, Granit Xhaka won the title ahead of Manuel Akanji. Four days later, it’s the other way around, with Akanji’s City beating Xhaka’s Arsenal 1-0 in the fourth round of the FA Cup. Both Swiss are on the pitch for the whole 90 minutes.
Nathan Ake scored the golden goal in the duel between the currently two best teams in the Premier League. The Dutch defender put the “Skyblues” in front in the 64th minute with a ripped shot into the bottom corner. Londoners have no answer.
Granit Xhaka, meanwhile, captains Arsenal as actual captain Martin Odegaard starts on the bench. When the Norwegian finally came on in the 74th minute, our Nati star gave up the armband.
We will see each other again in two and a half weeks: On February 15, Arsenal will welcome Manchester City to the top battle in the Premier League. The game is a catch-up game from Round 12, which was postponed due to the death of Queen Elizabeth II. (bjl)
