Albanian hope Laura Colturi is eliminated from the Zagreb slalom.
The women’s slalom in Zagreb causes discussions in the ski circus. As in many other ski areas, snow is scarce in Croatia. It doesn’t have enough to run the race on the whole track, the start is shifted down.
The media visit is canceled without further ado in order to protect the slope. Heavily watered and salted, the conditions are reminiscent of a spring race, the ground is muddy and the conditions are anything but easy. The slope is heavily marked early on.

21 drivers are eliminated in the first run
Therefore, the high number of retirements is not surprising: 21 drivers dropped out in the first race alone. One of them is the Albanian super talent Lara Colturi.
The 16-year-old is considered the great hope of the Albanian ski team. When she tackled the race with start number 51, the track was almost impassable. Shortly before the finish, the youngster finally falls and slides a few meters across the brown snow.
“A bad brown slope”
Shortly after the race, the Albanian Ski Association spoke up on Instagram. They stand up for their athletes and poison against the race: “Lara Colturi is a talented young woman. On a bad brown track she was close to finishing the race but in the last few meters it was just impossible.” Then there is a tip that is probably not meant to be taken seriously: “Next time we can also go straight to Tirana.”
According to the statement from her association, the driver also reports herself. Colturi writes on her Instagram profile that she is fine after the fall, but she will not take part in the second slalom in Zagreb.
A second slalom would have been scheduled for Thursday in the Croatian capital. In the meantime, however, the conditions on site have become so precarious that those responsible had to cancel the competition on Thursday afternoon. (bjl/bir)
