Alessandrini’s jersey († 25) is now hanging in the dressing room

The Challenge League team from Stade Lausanne-Ouchy: The climb to second place is overshadowed by three deaths in the club’s environment.
Actually, the Challenge League second Stade-Lausanne-Ouchy should start the second phase of the championship full of joy. But the soaring high is overshadowed by a terrible black streak.
Shortly before Christmas, SLO defender Elia Alessandrini († 25) tragically died during the holidays. Unbelievable: It is the third death in a few weeks that has shaken the club. Assistant coach Dalibor Stevanovic (38) lost his wife in mid-November. Five days later, Karim Gazzetta († 27) dies in Bosnia, who played for the Lausanners from 2019 to 2021.
“These dramas have not welded a team together, but people,” says SLO trainer Anthony Braizat (45), visibly moved. It was important to meet and talk at the beginning of the year.
The crew paid their last respects at the grave
A large part of the team attended Alessandrini’s funeral. Braizat: «We decided to leave his locker in the changing room and hang up his jersey there. He will be with us on and off the pitch. We will fight for him too.”
The SLO pros traveled to Barcelona during the winter break to clear their heads as a team. “We wanted to use this to reward ourselves for our good results,” explains goalkeeper Dany Da Silva. “It was also important to meet off the pitch and talk about something other than football.”
An opinion shared by his coach. “We used the time to eat in a restaurant, go out a bit and have a drink together.”
And what if, at the end of this emotional rollercoaster season, the promotion sensation succeeds? Da Silva: «Of course we think about it. If we put in good performance after good performance, there is a chance that we will move up. But we don’t put any pressure on ourselves.”
