Joan Verdu causes a moment of shock at the Chuenisbärgli.
Next to the route, it is green on the Chuenisbärgli. This also lacks the necessary fall space. The organizers knew how to help themselves: they set up air cushions along the finish slope. This is the only way they can guarantee the safety of the drivers.
With start number 24, the air cushions are tested for their functionality for the first time. Andorran Joan Verdu (27) hits a gate a little too early and is catapulted off the track. He lands in the air cushions – or in between. Because it comes up exactly where two pillows meet and disappears between them.
Anxious moments in Adelboden, helpers rush over immediately. They detach the skis from Verdu’s feet and free him from his predicament. He can’t get out of there alone. But he can get up on his own. With a thumbs up he signals: Luckily it looked worse than it is. (bir)
Lucky for Verdu: Andorran is freed from the safety mats(00:22)
