A tribute from the agricultural world to Lionel Messi.
Farmer Charly Faricelli from Ballesteros, northwest of Buenos Aires, told the AFP news agency that he had planned the picture before the Argentine team won the World Cup. “The thinking behind it was a tribute from the agricultural world to Messi, whether he wins the World Cup or not – which thank God he did!”
The Messi portrait is about the size of four football pitches and can only be seen from the air. “It’s an agricultural ‘tattoo,'” Faricelli said, referring to the number of Argentines who got Messi tattoos after winning the title.
Bauer provides software for tractor computers
The Messi image is not cut into the corn culture as in crop circles or corn labyrinths, but is created by different concentrations of seeds. “Thanks to advances in technology, the tractor knows exactly how many grains to sow and where,” says the farmer. On the Internet he called on other farmers to do the same and made the software available for them to load onto their tractor computers. There are now 25 Messi Maize portraits in five provinces of the country, as Faricelli says.
