Marco Odermatt drives from success to success. Thanks to the Austrians?
Marco Odermatt dominates the Ski World Cup. He has already hoarded 13 podium places this season, including six wins. As the defending champion, he leads the overall World Cup with a lead of 340 points. That arouses envy.
The Austrians are licking their fingers for the Nidwalden ski giant, especially Servus TV presenter Christian Brugger. In the program “Sport and Talk from Hangar 7”, Brugger digs hard at Odermatt when he is a guest on Monday.
“We tried to get your secret,” says Brugger. «Marco Odermatt relies on stability, continuity, the ski brand and the environment. And: on Austrians – you have to be honest, Marco! »
Many Austrians in Odermatt’s team
Brugger explains how he came up with it. “We found out there is the service man, Chris Lödler, who is Austrian. Then we have a giant slalom coach, Helmut Krug. Then we have Michael Schiendorfer, half Austrian. And then of course we have the Austrian red bull (Red Bull), who is also at the start. »
He addressed Odermatt’s manager as Schiendorfer. Although he is Swiss, he actually has Austrian roots, as he confirms to Blick. His father is Austrian and was naturalized in Switzerland. He has family in Vorarlberg and Carinthia.
For Brugger enough reference to Austria. “Success is a bit red-white-red, isn’t it?”
“My team consists of Austrians – and that fits quite well.”Marco Odermatt, ski star
Odermatt himself even goes one better: “By the way, my condition trainer is also Austrian, Kurt Kothbauer.” The Nidwaldner laughs and praises his Austrian troops. “Yes, practically my entire team consists of Austrians – and that fits quite well.”
Odermatt sat by the fire for over two hours
Marco Odermatt spoke to Blick about the appearance on Servus TV, which became a real marathon for him. In the talk round he sat by the fire on the Seidlalm.
“It was ultimately more than two hours that we sat there. It stretched and didn’t get any warmer,” says Odermatt. But in the end it’s not a problem, he says. “It’s my main sponsor’s show, but that’s why I enjoyed doing it.”

The 25-year-old still wins for Switzerland (and on Swiss skis). While the Austrians are deep in crisis. The proud skiing nation has achieved as many podium finishes this season as Odermatt alone.
By the way: Michael Schiendorfer is also a quarter Indonesian. This means that the Southeast Asian state can also take credit for a piece of Odermatt’s success.
