Joana Heidrich has returned to training.
You could hardly look when Joana Heidrich dislocated her shoulder during a service on June 19 at the World Championships in Rome in the bronze game. After surviving the operation and a lot of training, the 31-year-old returns to the sand after almost six months. Her longtime companion Anouk Vergé-Dépré (30) is also there.
In a video on Instagram, the 2020 Olympic bronze medalists show how they play a pair of first balls. Heidrich and Vergé-Dépré’s faces are full of joy.« The first time since the game for the bronze medal at the World Championships in June together on sand. That feels good, even if there is still a long way to go! We’re working hard for our comeback as a team,” writes the beach volleyball duo under the video.
Heidrich was out for the remainder of the season following her injury. Her partner Vergé-Dépré spent the rest of the season with Menia Bentele. With the 21-year-old she was part of the Swiss team that won the Nations Cup. It is not yet clear when Vergé-Dépré and Heidrich will play tournaments together again. (mab)
