All games, all goals of the 16th Bundesliga round
Because of this scene, Sommer has already been compared to Neuer
Yann Sommer is celebrating his debut in an FCB jersey – and is reminiscent of his predecessor Manuel Neuer. A memorable, high-scoring Bundesliga weekend is behind us: here are all the highlights of the 16th matchday.
1/11
Played in Bayern dress for the first time: Yann Sommer.
RB Leipzig – Bayern Munich 1: 1
Bayern are happy that he’s here: Yann Sommer (34) was in the box for the German record champions for the first time in the top game against Leipzig on Friday. But the Bundesliga fans rub their eyes when they concede. Is it really summer – or is it his predecessor Manuel Neuer? What is meant: After the ball crosses the goal line, Sommer immediately raises his arm (see video above). And this “complaint arm” is otherwise known from the currently injured Neuer. Fans are already joking about this scene online. For example, a user writes: “Respect for how summer has trained the complaint arm within a day.”
Sommer himself explains the scene after the game to DAZN as follows: “I thought 100 percent that it was a foul. I was very sure. The referee then decided differently, but I tried to complain.” On Tuesday, Sommer is already back in action – in the Allianz Arena at home, the Munich team will welcome Cologne, which is in the best of moods after the World Cup break (see below). Will Sommer’s “complaint arm” be used again?
Dortmund – Augsburg 4: 3
After about an hour, things get very emotional in the Signal Iduna Park. Sébastien Haller (28) comes on 188 days after his testicular cancer diagnosis and makes his competitive debut for BVB. Pure emotions! The Ivorian didn’t manage to score a goal – but after the 4:3 spectacle victory he shouldn’t care.
Dortmund – Augsburg 4: 3: Goosebumps reception for BVB-Haller after cancer(08:00)
Gladbach – Leverkusen 2: 3
As is well known, Sommer’s successor in Gladbach, Jonas Omlin (29), is also a Swiss. But this is not how the four-time Nati player would have imagined his debut in Germany. Up to the 67th minute, Omlin has to reach behind him three times, the foals are presented by Leverkusen. Nevertheless, the Werkself start to tremble at the end, Stindl brings Gladbach close again with his brace. However, the second goal came too late in the 93rd minute.
Highlights to follow.
Frankfurt – Schalke 3: 0
Michael Frey (28) is also making his debut in the Bundesliga. The new Schalke striker comes on in Frankfurt after 82 minutes with the score at 0:1. Bitter for Frey: The Gelsenkircheners conceded two more goals after his substitution in the final phase. This statistic is even more bitter: The Royal Blues are without a win in Germany’s top division for the 36th time in a row – equivalent to the negative record in the league.
Frankfurt – Schalke 3: 0: Lindström-Tänzchen puts the Hessians in second place(04:44)
Cologne – Werder Bremen 7: 1
Werder Bremen was definitely one of the big surprises of the Bundesliga season so far. Instead of being on the relegation places, the promoted mixes with the front. After the World Cup break, the beating follows! In Cologne they are 0:5 (!) behind after 36 minutes, in the end it is 1:7. Not the restart that was hoped for in Bremen. On the other hand, there is joy among the people of Cologne: For them it is the highest Bundesliga victory in almost 40 years.
Cologne – Bremen 7: 1: Live Colonia! 47-meter goal and side kick at carnival victory(06:19)
Wolfsburg – Freiburg 6:0
Oops! Since Freiburg have the opportunity to become the first Bayern pursuer, but this plan is completely in the pants. Christian Streich’s team goes swimming in Wolfsburg with a score of 0:6. And it doesn’t get any easier: the duel against Eintracht Frankfurt follows on Wednesday. More precisely: the first Bayern hunter.
Wolfsburg – Freiburg 6: 0: Who hasn’t yet, who wants again? Wolves in goal mood(06:01)
Union Berlin – Hoffenheim 3: 1
Union Berlin – Hoffenheim 3: 1: The Köpenicker nod twice late to victory(05:51)
Bochum – Hertha 3: 1
Bochum – Hertha 3: 1: Double Hofmann shoots Bochum away from relegation places(05:48)
Stuttgart – Mainz 1: 1
Stuttgart – Mainz 1: 1: Fernandes saves point in the last second(04:43)
