Canada is U20 World Champion!
6:22 minutes were played in overtime when the Canadian Dylan Guenther shoved the puck into the goal for the 3:2 winner and caused the ice rink in Halifax to explode. In doing so, he makes his colors the U20 World Champion for the second time in a row in front of his home crowd and hits the heart of the Swiss conqueror Czech Republic.
After the game, the winning goal scorer was overjoyed: “Words cannot describe it. Being here, playing with this team and in front of these fans. It couldn’t have ended any better.”
The extra time was preceded by a lightning comeback by the Czechs. The Canadians were leading 2-0 after two periods before the Czechs were able to equalize the game within just one minute in the final section – and thus send the final into overtime.
An overtime, in which the magic moment of Dylan Guenther should follow. (bjl)
