On Friday evening, ZSC Managing Director Peter Zahner commented on MySports about the shocking riots on January 6th in Rapperswil-Jona.
Chaos from the camp of the ZSC fans, supported by a delegation of like-minded people from the Bundesliga club SC Freiburg, had already raged in the city in the afternoon, setting off fireworks and firecrackers. Pyros and bullying continued in the stadium, after the game the drooling crowd wanted to gain access to the stadium (and even the Lakers’ dressing room) after the police had already pushed them back to the train station.
Lions informed only two minutes before the start of the game
The league has now taken measures: For ZSC fans, choreos and fan paraphernalia are prohibited until further notice, at home and away. The cascade model of the National League takes effect – the next step would be access exclusively after ID control, then the reduction of the guest sector would follow – up to the total ban. Zahner supports the league’s measures and explains in an interview that “the fans decide through their behavior which measures the league takes, not us”.
Zahner also explains in the interview that the ZSC Lions were only informed about the situation at 7:43 p.m. (two minutes before the start of the game) – although the riots had already started in the afternoon.
