Cologne celebrates a 7-1 thrashing of Bremen
Highest Cologne Bundesliga victory for almost 40 years! And that was an important one.
The “Effzeh” wins for the first time since mid-October – before the World Cup break, the people of Cologne have come closer and closer to the relegation places, now the liberation. FC had last won more in October 1983 against Eintracht Frankfurt (7-0). Only Niclas Füllkrug (38th) scored for Bremen, a month and a half after his strong appearances at the World Cup he was largely unregistered.
Newly promoted Bremen started well, but then played a free kick weakly and conceded the 0:1 in the 9th minute. Then the guests are overrun: In the 36th minute it’s already 0:5! Particularly worth seeing: Steffen Tigges’ 3-0 in the 21st minute and Ellyes Skhiri’s 6-1. While Tigges lobs from the center circle, Skhiri sinks with a side kick.
Any momentum Werder could have picked up after the break was shattered by Skhiri’s 6-1. In the end, Cologne’s winter signing Davie Selke came off the bench and made his FC debut. (AFP)
