Dani Alves was arrested in Barcelona.
Former FC Barcelona defender Dani Alves has been arrested by Spanish police, they announced on Friday. He is said to have been involved in a sexual assault on a woman on New Year’s Eve weekend.
A spokesman confirms that the footballer appeared independently at the “Les Corts” police station because he was under investigation. He was then taken into police custody and taken to a court, where he would now be questioned by a judge: “It is now up to the court to decide what measures to take.”
As the “Daily Mail” writes, the investigators have a video showing that Alves was alone with the woman in the toilet for 47 seconds. The authorities are currently not allowed to reveal any further details.
Alves denies allegations
On the night of December 30th, the Brazilian, who is currently playing for UNAM Pumas in Mexico and was on vacation in Spain at the time, is said to have touched the woman’s private parts. Then her friends called the police. When this arrived, the 39-year-old was no longer there. The ad followed two days later, and proceedings were finally opened on January 10th.
The 126-time Brazilian international denied any allegations to the Spanish TV station Antena 3: “I don’t know who the woman is. I don’t know her name, I don’t know her. I have never seen her before.” He just had fun and danced with some friends, “but without violating the privacy of others”.
It’s a turbulent week for Alves. Earlier this week he flew back to Spain from Mexico because his mother-in-law passed away. “We regret the death of the mother of Joana Sanz, Dani Alves’ wife. We express our sincere condolences, »wrote the Mexican club in a statement. (che)
