Sometimes it’s the hidden stories that are particularly touching. Aline Danioth (24) recently wrote one.
In December 2016, the ski talent from Andermatt, then only 18 years old, fell in the giant slalom in Sestriere (It) and tore his cruciate ligament. Three years later she returns to Piedmont. “I was really scared,” says Danioth. As if it were fate, she falls again – again the knee suffers a total loss.
“Accordingly, my joy was low when I saw last fall that Sestriere was back on the World Cup calendar,” admits Danioth. Nevertheless, the woman from Uri faces her demons – and defeats them. With 13th place, she even achieves the best result of the season. “I’m very proud. The fact that I have mastered this mental challenge gives me a secure feeling.”
Worked on the weakness
It goes without saying that Danioth wants to take advantage of the momentum at Semmering (Austria). She is targeting a top 10 placement. “That would be the next step,” she says. In order for this to succeed, Danioth worked hard in the summer – also on her weakness, driving on flat terrain. According to their trainers, the training was fruitful, but Danioth says: “I’m still better on the steep.”
Either way: For Danioth, the season really begins with the race on the Hirschenkogel. Five slaloms within two weeks is a small mammoth program. “Often in winter I slowly get out of the starting blocks. I am all the happier that it is now happening in quick succession.”
