Urs Fischer does not enjoy Isco.
Carlo Emanuele FrezzaReporter football
Everything was arranged in Berlin for the absolute transfer hammer. Francisco Román Alarcón Suárez, called Isco (30), should sign with Urs Fischer’s union. There was talk of a turning point. In professional circles there were even those who interpreted this transfer as a declaration of attack from Union in the direction of Bayern Munich.
In Köpenick itself, on the other hand, many were skeptical. In the recent past, the club has repeatedly signed aging Bundesliga stars such as Christian Gentner, Neven Subotic and Max Kruse. The fact that a former Real Madrid star, who has won five Champions Leagues, four Club World Cups and three Spanish league titles, was a European Under-21 champion and a Golden Boy eleven years ago, would play for Union was beyond the imagination of some fans .
Dreaming with the Spanish magic mouse
Or how does that sound? Isco, who wears the Union jersey on an ordinary Saturday afternoon in Bochum, caresses the ball in midfield, leverages the opposing defense out of nowhere with a fine chip ball and launches Sheraldo Becker alone towards the goal. This, in turn, dribbles around the goalie, casually slides in and immediately thanks the assist provider. Almost too good to be true.
When Isco actually shows up at the Berlin Charité for the obligatory medical check-up on Tuesday morning, even the biggest skeptics believe in this deal. Nothing seems to stand in the way.
Blame is passed on to each other
And then anyway: the bang in the afternoon. The two parties reverse the role at the last moment, even though Isco passed the medical check. It failed because both sides had a different understanding of salary. Accordingly, both negotiating partners blame each other for the collapse.

“We would have liked to see Isco with us, but we have our limits. These were exceeded today, contrary to previous agreements,” says Union Manager Oliver Ruhnert to “Bild”. Isco’s side, on the other hand, claims that “our negotiating partner was no longer willing to move within the framework originally discussed”.
Failed on gross and net?
Or was there simply a misunderstanding? At least that’s what Sky expert Torsten Mattuschka (42) suspects: “I think it failed in terms of gross and net.”
The Union legend provides a reason for this assumption immediately afterwards. “Because in Spain, I think, there are only net contracts as footballers. In Germany I only signed gross contracts myself. And if you haven’t explicitly discussed it – I’ll just throw two million into the room – for Union it’s two million gross, for the Isco side two million net, then that’s a small difference here in Germany.”
Another explanation comes from Spain: As “El Mundo” writes, Union is said to have suddenly only been interested in a contract term until the summer, while the Isco side assumed a year and a half. And: The Berliners are said not to have planned Isco for Europa League assignments, which the midfielder didn’t like at all. Other media also report short-term discrepancies in wages and bonus payments.
Be that as it may: For the peace of all, Isco, who terminated his contract with Sevilla at the end of December, remains without a club for the time being. At the same time, Unions Star remains the ensemble and is not replaced by a single player.
