Damper on Four Hills Tournament
Deschwanden misses the exploit in Innsbruck
Disappointment at the third station of the Four Hills Tournament: Gregor Deschwanden did not make it into the second round in Innsbruck.
Out in Innsbruck: Gregor Deschwanden cannot do better after the good performance in Garmisch.
Gregor Deschwanden shakes his hands in the finish area and shakes his head. Even before his opponent starts in the knockout duel of the first round in Innsbruck, he knows that it won’t work. And that’s how it happens. The German Markus Eisenbichler, world champion in 2019 at this location, jumps five meters further than the Central Swiss – and thus eliminates him.
After the decent 21st place in Garmisch, which gave Deschwanden hope for an upward trend, it put a damper on him again. Eisenbichler may have been the favorite on paper, but has not yet been able to convince this season.
Station three of the Four Hills Tournament is already ticked off for Deschwanden after the first jump. The 31-year-old had hoped for more than the 112 meters he achieved – now the show jumping in Bischofshofen awaits at the end of the tour on Friday. (mpe)
