Garmisch in sight, World Cup points in sight: Gregor Deschwanden starts the New Year’s competition with good prospects
Because Simon Ammann decided against Garmisch-Partenkirchen and for the Continental Cup in Engelberg, Gregor Deschwanden is now the only Swiss at this year’s edition of the Four Hills Tournament – and he delivers on Saturday. With a good jump of 128 meters, Deschwanden ranked 17th in the qualification and is therefore part of the New Year’s competition.
With the jump, Deschwanden created a good starting position for the first round. In the knockout duel, the 31-year-old meets Artti Aigro, who is absolutely within his reach. The Estonian came in 34th with a jump of 119 m.
Dawid Kubacki secures a qualifying win
The World Cup leader Dawid Kubacki (140.5 m) secured the CHF 3,000 for winning the qualification, thus challenging the tour leader Halvor Egner Granerud (6./134.5 m).
At the Four Hills Tournament, the first round will be played in the knockout system. The 50th of the qualifier competes against the 1st and so on. Only the five best losers in a duel make it into the top 30. (SDA/hon)
